Greetings -
I want to add 110/120v power plug in the closet behind the driver's seat.

A convient plug is located above the microwave in the cabinet in the galley.
The shelf and wall look stable and easy enough to drill a 1.25 hole. But there ia a "Mystery space" and I wonder what surprises might lurk there for by drill bit!

A few pictures from other 170s to help explain where I'm talking.

This is a view inside a 170 cabinet - the mystery is behind the wall:

I'll have to figure out removing the microwave next, but can do that after I can confirm that this is an OK plan.
Hoping some of you that have removed and replaced bit of the interior might havbe an idea to share. Thanks in advance!

Cheers - Jim

Another option, i suppose would run behind the Galley Drawers, refrigerator, behind the sink and the stove inti the electronics cabinet and use one of the tv.dvd player plugs. Or. if the stainless steel trim above the galley can be dropped, that might be an easier path.
All thoughts and suggestions welcomed.

Thanks.

It is likely the same as 190 like we have.

Under the wood tray above the driver seat is a bit of space with 12v wiring and speaker wires is you have front speakers. Below the wires is remains of were the the roof was cut.

If you pull the microwave out you should be able to see the ragged, and I mean ragged, roof cut if it is like ours. The microwave will probably be sitting or almost sitting on the remaining steel body.

The cabinet it self is probably very close to the ribs of the van body sidewall so not a lot of room, but some.

If you have an outlet in the kitchen on the "beam" of stainless steel that goes across the area under the cabinets it might be the easiest to tap that one, and run the wire through the beam and into the cabinet.

Our 190 has an outlet on the front of that cabinet facing the driver seat with the wiring coming through the cabinet. I was able to fish a wire from the hidden microwave oultet down to the kitchen outlet when I wired the microwave into the inverter circuit initially. Now that the entire van is on inverter I separated it back to it's own circuit.

booster!

I knew you had most likely been "foraging" around that area for space!

Thanks. I fully expect the 170 is similar to the 190 layout on the Chevy platform in that area.

I was thinking an "exploraty hole" and an endoscope probe just to look see. But that first drill had had me taking a pause.

Thanks - and, Cheers - Jim

I found a couple of "before" photos (the 3rd and 4th) and a couple of "after" photos (the 1st and 2nd) of the area. The "after" is after insulating. I think all of them are after wiring changes.

I couldn't find much in the way of "before" photos, but here are some after some rewiring and insulating. Hope they can help a bit.

Wonder how this drops to access? Remove the cabinet required?

That shows the hole booster mentioned too.

BTW - these were built in Canada - eh? So little insulation, it must have been in the tropical CA!

Thanks heaps!
