Awning Legs in Rain: Ground or Body Mount?

Hi, question is about a 2017 Roadtrek Zion but I think it's pretty general.

Is it better / safer / less likely to cause a failure when it's raining, to have the vertical legs of an awning down on the ground or up on the body of the van?

I think on the body but one side tilted to drain off water

As mentioned, body with a tilt unless the ground supports are staked.

Nobody has mentioned the wind that commonly comes with the rain. If it is windy roll the awning up even if wet and roll it out to dry when it quits raining and blowing hard.
