Looking for recommendations for hitch bike rack for my Sprinter/ Roadtrek van. Looking at two brands that swing away to access door. Yakima- versatile with add on. Expensive.

Rocky Mount- bikes only. Not as expensive but not cheap.

Any others I’m missing and anyone have experience with either?

We have a Thule, bought on craigslist, it swings to the right, works well with two bikes, it was $175.
Where we live there are always several available used. We also have a cover for the bikes because of the amount of road grit from rain and dirt roads, we have a set of magnetic tail lights like they use on tow trucks as the cover also covers our tail light. The magnetics allow the lights to be mounted just above the bike cover so we have signals!

I am using a Kuat Sherpa. Holds two bikes, folds up and out of the way when not being used, and folds the bikes down and away from the rear doors while still loaded on the bike rack. Well made but I think it is expensive. It sits up high above our Blue Ox tow bar.

I see the photo looks a little strange. The two bikes were sitting in the ground and leaning against the bike rack at photo time.

We have a Swagman. Reasonble price. Works well on our 2010 Roadtrek RS. Check out etrailer.

Depending upon the types of bikes you intend to transport, I would recommend that you check out the 1UP USA Super Duty rack combined with the RAKATTACH. I bought this specifically for my Sprinter and e-bikes but also use it on my other vehicles. It is pricey, but very sturdy.

i have the yakima. Swing out with double up exo bike rack and i bought the black cargo box. Very solid set up. It's expensive. I also bought the brake light kit.?

I went with the Rack Attach. I was looking for a swing away that's strong enough to carry our 225 lb. Vespa plus rack and it's the only one I found that has that capacity. It might be overkill for your bikes and rack.

I’ve had a Rocky Mount on my 2020 Travato for three years and I have been very satisfied. I have carried an e-bike and a mountain bike back and forth from Florida to Nova Scotia multiple times with zero issues. It is well built and has weathered well. Only issue I have is its weight. It needs to be robust especially because of the “swing” capability, but that makes it relatively heavy. Other than that it has been perfect.

I use a Holiday rack and a Kuat 2.0 swing away. This allows easy access to the rear of the van. The Holiday rack is used for 2 wide tire E-Bikes. Quite heavy, but no problems in 3 years of travel.

We have tried many on our 2011 RS; we sleep with the doors open and don't want to remove the bike every night.
SeaSuckers are easy to live with and have not budged in >10K miles, on the dirt and sometimes with a lightweight ebike. Challenging to load bikes, we now have a longer thinner cable that threads thru the door hinge; SeaSucker's anchor is awkward and the cable is crap.

Currently we are using a Rockymounts AfterParty Swing Away; swings sufficiently to open the back doors, super easy to use but heavy and $$$.

On our Roadtrek we have what I think is a CURT trailer hitch. The Yakima bike rack and the Kuat 2.0 swing away. When I have the bikes (1 ebike and 1 street bike) and am driving the bikes are bouncing up and down. So much so I a bring the bikes in the Raodtrek and don't even use the rack It's a Class 3 rck that I see has 2 bolts on eith side to the frame so it looks ok. SHould i get a new hitch? Does anyone else have this issue?
Thanks

the rack is basically a huge pry bar in the receiver, if you add straps to the door hinges or the ones with hooks to the top of the door it will help. If you have NRS straps and the hooks like they include with strap on bike racks it will be good. Here is one, but you may need more length Bike Rack Support Strap - 61" Long, 1-1/4" Wide

Thanks. But I don't understand why it should be bouncing at all. When i put the rack on the hitch on my Jeep Grand Cherokee it's solid as can be and has no movement. The hitch we have CURT 13295 has 2 bolts on either side and tongue of 500. The CURT 13207 has tongue of 750 and attaches in 5 places on each side. I think it will be more solid with 5 points of attachment on each side instead of 2. Does anyone have that hitch on the Roadtrek?

the 13295 just mounts to the bumper mounts, flat, no cantilever, the 13207 is a monster, the 2 look the same as our Promaster specs.
no clue on the Jeep bumper, but as I said, the bike rack is a giant pry bar, I am not an engineer, but consider 65lbs of ebike, 35 lbs of bike, 30 lbs of rack...put them on the end of a 6 foot arm and it is very different than a tongue load, it twists as well, while a trailer is just a flat weight. try a strap, that will likely help, we had a large box I made for trip on a vehicle similar to your jeep, the box and rack probably weighed 75 lbs, the load likely 200, but I used diagonal straps from the corners of the box over to the roofrack
, it did not flop around at all
