A member’s 15C190P suffered a badly cracked black tank outlet to the macerator after bottoming out, expanding damage at a previously repaired area. The repair shop recommended replacement and quoted $1,260–$1,600 in labor plus $1,075 for the tank, prompting questions about the labor charge and Mobilife RV Center as a source for an HM 1316 replacement tank.

Two members reported positive experiences with Mobilife, including Roadtrek service and parts installation; one noted that the...

15C190P .....Bottomed out van on last trip. Stopped at reputable repair shop. It's cracked badly at black tank outflow to macerator. They said it had been repaired there before and the new damage has expanded. They recommended replacing black tank.

They quoted labor of $1260 - $1600 to replace, plus wanted $1075 for a new tank. Is the labor reasonable?

I found a replacement tank- HM 1316- from Mobilife RV Center in Canada. Anyone have any experience with this company?

Thank you for your help!

That tank is listed at $550 Canadian on their website, but tariffs may hit you unless you pick it up and have it put on there. Mobilife is a good place, we bought the last 3rd seat replacement armoir they had and they put it on while we were there.

On your old tank, it may be repairable by a reputable plastic fabrication shop if the tank if removed and cleaned before taking it to them. The existing repair was probably done in place just by welding a crack and the plastic shop could make a larger pieces to weld in to where the cut out damage is.

I see you are in Minnesota as am I. I had our grey tank repaired at a shop near our home in Andover Mn and they do RV tanks regularly as long as they are thoroughly cleaned. Good place.

Mobilife is our go to repair garage. No one else gets to touch our 2012 190 Roadtrek. Mobilife sold Roadtreks from the early 90s until 2019. AFAIK, mechanic Jeff has been there for all those years.
IMHO, he knows more about RT designs, parts and repairs than anyone, except maybe for Booster and the factory guys who built them, lol
We have an October service appointment with Mobilife to tune up our Suburban furnace.

This probably won't do in your situation. However, I made a long-lasting repair to a cracked freshwater tank by slathering it with Gloozit Marine. Gloozit does not seem to be available in the USA, but it is widely available in Canada. No doubt there are similar American products. An amazingly cheap, simple, and long-lasting (fingers crossed) repair. <Gloozit | Canada — NLS Products>

Most RVs have the holding tanks below the chassis, next time you’re in the market check out Wolff touring vans. All tanks are above the floor so they don’t bottom them out.

Aside from this not being in the vendor area, as it appears you may be a vendor, if you want folks to check out your vans for compatibility with their needs, you should have a website that gives a list of what you have, including floorplans and brand/size of van options. Personally, I would not want to only be able to get complete information by getting a sales call, as it appears to be setup for on the website.

People don’t know unless you tell them what they don’t know. If you think I should be answering on a different thread, please let me know how to do so thank you Alan.

If you are a dealer you should contact the moderator Janet that you can find below and she can fill you in on the rules for commercial interests. I think it is in best interest of all of the users here to get all the information, including from the vendors, but it is important for us all to know what if that information is coming from users of the products or coming from the sellers of the product.

I also live in MN near Hutchinson with my 07C210P.
When I was under my rig inspecting an upcoming tank repair, i noticed the transition from black tank to outlet looked like a repair but I think it was actually the HDPE glue used at the factory.
The initial tech that looked at your rig may have just took this factory assembly job as repair work.
Although two "small" jobs, I successfully welded small areas in both my black tank and fresh water tank. I recorded the process and the videos can be found on my YouTube channel if you scroll through my recent videos... https://youtube.com/@benjaminhansen?si=a_jLkxxJNO_V4mdN

Note- Markquart RV in Ramsey, MN lied to me about the damage to my black tank when i took it to them for repair. They told me the hole was the size of a finger with spider cracks extending from it. In actuality, they never even saw the hole, as i was the one that removed the old EternaBond repair tape after they said they could not do the replacement job. The hole was only the size of a 1/8" drill bit. I am glad I never let them do the repair.
Yours may be able to be repaired in place. Research and knowledge is your friend. Feel free to reach out.

I found a three generation family RV place in Iowa I'm taking it to this weekend. He said the same as you. He wants to look at it to see if it can be repaired instead of assuming it needs a new tank. Thanks for posting....

To reply to your previous post about Mobilife RV in case the tank can't be repaired: I order a big part from them (a replacement for the large fiberglass outside storage door in the older Roadtreks) and it was easy, though not cheap. Now I expect there may be additional issues with tariffs from Canada.

07C210P. I’m discouraged by my attempts at repair my leaky black tank drain crack/leak so I hope someone on this thread has a successful story rather than just a hopeful one to share. Several attempts to repair/replace in multiple states over the last two years have lead me to stop trying and live uncomfortably with only a storage space in lieu of a loo. Often the service will simply refuse work on black tank issues and I had no luck sourcing any original part replacement source for my old model. Van.life in Mississippi gave it the best, though unsuccessful effort, and even produced their own design replacement but have yet to solve the connection seal apparently. Glues and goops, caulk guns and hot welds, etc. My own disability has limited me from any further personal activity there as well, even as I had a lift preformed to increase access and reduce the design vulnerability of the tank’s position on the low clearance rig. I would caution anyone to verify that this would not be an issue with a used purchase of an older RT that might be sold as all good but with tanks empty. A small drip has been a giant drain of utility for me. I hope to hear of a reliable location for solving such a situation eventually. Maybe this thread?

I'm with Booster on this one. This OP asked about a repair to his tank.
