What are the odds of ever having to use your spare tire if you regularly check air pressure and replace tires every 4 to 5 years regardless of wear? Early vintage automobiles carried tube patch kits and even vulcanizing kits in their toolboxes. Tires these days seem to be made for many many miles of trouble free use. We are spending serious money on swing down carriers, custom covers etc. not to mention the extra weight to haul around the tire, heavy jacks and wrenches and related stuff. I'm guessing the last time I had to use any spare while on the road was 20 or 30 years ago. I'm not sure I want to test Murphys Law with this though.

spare wheel

i tried that also already. spare off 10 mls. down the road and bang.
than i had to listen to my wifes nagging on top of it.
who needs that?

I've never used the spare tire on my RV. I've got several nails in my regular vehicle tires but not the RV. (Knock on wood  ). In fact, the spare on the RV was an old bias-ply tire. It was probably the original one. I did put new tires on last year and took the best old one and it's now the spare.

We were in Monte Gordo, Mexico...we ran over a big screw and the tire blew.
A local trucker stopped, used his hydraulic type jack and he and his helper would not even let us get the spare.
They did all the work, would not take anything and sent us on our way.

I rotate all five tires every 10,000km. Twice in the past I got a flat and had to drive a far distance on the little wheel barrow tire. Even though you never use your spare it can crack and loose pressure with age. Someday when you need it, it will be flat too. Now if I get a flat tire I know my spare is in good shape. I repair or replace the damaged tire ASAP.

Like everyone else, I rarely have had a flat tire on the road. I do remember the last time I used the spare was about 10 years ago and I did get one flat at home and was able to take the tire off and get it repaired. Still I will not travel without a spare because I know the first time I leave home without it...

Recently had a blowout on the highway. Thank goodness for a spare because we were in the middle of nowhere-land.
