Diesel engine vs. gasoline engine?

So, I am looking to buy a gasoline RoadTrek 190 Popular or 210 Popular, but not older than 10 years so 2015 or later. Looking to sleep at least 3 and seat at least 5, but I need a 3rd seat up front for a grandchild.

Since I am not finding a lot to look at, I may be forced to look at diesel engine options which I know very little about. I can already see that I would usually pay about a dollar a gallon more than gasoline in any part of the country.

Can I have your opinion?

I have "heard" the following:

- safety thread that they may be slightly more fire prone
- Mercedes dealerships do not like to work on diesel RVs
- higher maintenance cost on something like an oil change
- diesel engines "last longer" whatever that means...

Advantages of a diesel RV vs a gasoline RV is what I am looking for as input?

Thanks,

Welshman

I would suggest to stay with 2008 or earlier models for diesel Sprinters, in 2008 MB introduced Blue Tech exhaust diesel treatment very prone to failures until very recent models. Repair costs are astronomical.

My son gave up his 2006 T1N because there was a part in the emissions system he couldn’t find for a reasonable price.

Which part was it? Emission control on pre BlueTEC DEF based system diesels where similar to gasoline engines and cost of catalytic converter for example are similar to gas engines. How many miles were on this T1N Sprinter van?
