Hi! I would like to replace my factory 11/2 Din radio with a 2 din touch screen stereo. Has anybody put a 2 Din Stereo into a 2000 Chevy Express? Are there any aftermarket dashes available?

Single din with flip down screen is probably an option for you if the dash in your van is like mine. (flip up would block hvac controls in my van)

I've thought of that but I'm worried about the quality and longevity of the flip-down mechanism.

The cavity behind the dash might be the issue. I put a single din no screen stereo in mine. Photo:

It was 8 years ago so I barely remember doing it!

Same issue with my 97 PW on Dodge chassis. Like markopolo I eventually went with the single din/no screen. Like you I was worried about the life of the motorized flip up.

BOSS Audio MR2180UA is a 1.5 DIN deck. It's typically used in Marine applications, but can be bought new on Amazon and would fit your van and the 97 Dodge.

I'm not sure about the OP, but I was trying to find something with a screen that I could also use for a rear camera. The single dins with motorized flip ups do that. Since I couldn't really resolve that issue I just went with a single din media player. Interblog has sent pics of her driving area with a mounted iPad. Something like that would work for my purpose if there is a good (I know of at least one out there) app that can take a bluetooth signal from a rear camera.

Although I thought the rear camera was important at one time, with side mirrors and a clear shot from the windshield rear view mirror, I really haven't found the need that pressing.

Alpine Single Din

I have a 2004 Chevy Roadtrek 200 P which is a 2003 Chevy Express Van, I bought same a few months ago, it came with the Alpine single din flip screen radio. From the model number of the Alpine radio, it was installed when the unit was new, as in 2004. The radio works very well and there is no problem with the flip of the screen half way to access air controls and all the way.

Hey thanks, everybody for your replies! All good suggestions, but for me, there are issues in every regard. I've ordered a two din trim ring and going to see how I can modify my dash to make it fit without making a mess. I'll let you all know how it goes! Thanks Again!!

I installed a Pioneer AVIC-D1 Double DIN in my Road Trek Chevy 2004 190V back in about 2006 with no problems fitting it (getting the dash apart was another story!) I am thinking of replacing it with a Pioneer AVH-4500NEX since I cannot update the GPS data base anymore (will use Google on my phone via Bluetooth). As far as I can tell the dimensions (WxHxD) are the same. I got the D1 from Crutchfield with all the installation accessories and instruction with no problems. Now Crutchfield tells me a Double Din will not fit. Best Buy web site says yes so when this stay-at-home ends I will set up an appointment.

I've got a 2004 190P on the Chevy chassis - I assume it is comparable to yours. I did put a double DIN pioneer, and had trouble with the depth of the unit. I wound up cutting into the aluminum casting behind the radio and got it to work. If you can do without the DVD/CD drive, there are some newer units with a shallow chassies that should fit pretty easily. There are also some new models units that have a large, thin display that is separate from the chassies and allows for a lot of mounting options.

I'd call Crutchfield and ask them for shallow options. I've always had great luck with them, and to me paying a few $$ more is well worth it. Their support is excellent and is free for the life of the unit.
