Emergency stuff for an ice storm?

Texas is a funny state. Yes, it does get hot, but one can get around for almost anytime in the year. However, every 5-7 years, an ice storm hits. The roads are not salted so black ice stays there, and no tire chains are going to help much.

What would be good to bring along in a "B" just in case of an ice storm? A "Mr Buddy" heater is one thing I'm looking at because they can run for a while using relatively little propane, although they do put out wet air, and they require ventilation. I wonder what else I should consider getting just in case.

Lock de-icer.


You might not need it for the automotive doors (sometimes you do) but it can be needed to free up exterior compartment locks. 4 years ago, early October, we were in a snow storm as we approached Calgary. There was ice over all the exterior compartment doors by the time we got to a campground. I wouldn't have been able to get my power cord out of its compartment because the lock was frozen if I didn't have the little bottle of lock de-icer. Funny thing is that the lock de-icer was part of of gift co-workers jokingly gave me just days before because I was leaving the west coast and heading east. I wouldn't have had it otherwise.
