On my 2002 Rialta, I installed a transmission cooler and a kit that eliminates the original VW transmission cooler - the one that sits on the top of the transmission. The kit came with large spacers that allow the reuse of the original banjo bolts. Two o-rings were included, and I watched the video on the use of this kit and placement of the o-rings. When I started the engine, there appeared to be no leaks.
Today I drove the Rialta and there is a leak from the rear spacer. Obviously one of the o-rings was not positioned correctly and fluid is leaking from the base of the spacer. That should be an easy fix once everything cools down.
Dilemma - I noticed the transmission shuttering and immediately pulled into a parking lot. I only have a liter and a half of the proper transmission fluid and there is none available in my area (Kennewick WA). The VW dealer doesn't have any and can't get it. I only have a mile to go to get home but I'm not comfortable driving it even that far with so little fluid.
Can I use a different fluid in order to limp home, like Valvoline Import Multi-vehicle transmission fluid? I realize that after I get home I will need to drain the transmission and put in the correct fluid, but that's cheaper and way faster than getting a tow truck. Does anyone here have experience using non-OEM type fluid>
