Members welcomed a newcomer to Class B RVing and offered practical advice for starting out with a used Pleasure Way Ontour 2.2. The most emphasized tip was to take short practice trips close to home to get comfortable with the van and identify any issues before embarking on longer adventures. Tire safety was highlighted repeatedly—several experienced RVers recommended inspecting tires frequently for cracks or damage and replacing them every 5-6 years, regardless of appearance, due to the... Hi all, I just bought a Pleasure Way Ontour 2.2 I'm absolutely new to camper vans and am looking forward to adventure this spring. Finally decided tent camping was just too much at 67 . Any thoughts on propane stoves for grilling, best site for referrals to campsites or boondocking sites ( Harvest Hosts, The Dyrt etc ) Insurance for stove, refrigerator, etc as I bought used and warranties are void. Any tips would be appreciated

RV Life is well worth the $60/yr membership. Oh but don’t use it’s GPS… bad

Good morning and welcome. Before you embark on the journey of a lifetime; be sure to take a few short practice runs close to home to work out any bugs and get the feel of your machine. I'm sure you inspected your used camper carefully; however, IMO, the most important items on your vehicle are your tires. Inspect outside and the chassis side frequently for cracks, gouges and separation. In regard to GPS; don't forget the Rand McNally and always have your co-pilot verify the route before you commit. You don't want to hear the phrase, "prepare to go off road", unless you really want to. We have several humorous (now) stories about where our gps has taken us on our 48 state tour. A small tool kit is also essential. Can't help on your other questions, we always did State parks, KOAs and Good Sam Club campgrounds. Have fun.

Good advise on tires. Unlike cars, RV tires are usually run near max. load capacity. I subscribe to the "replace at 6 years old" philosophy even if no visual defects are apparent at that point.

GPS freelancing is way to common and sometimes even happens when the route is show correctly.

Many GPS units let you run the route as a simulation on the unit so you can watch for oddities at greatly accelerated speeds so doesn't take very long. I can do the simulation on Basecamp after finishing a route plan and then again after loading it into the Garmin GPS. Good way to catch most errors.

I'm in agreement that on these heavy rigs that when the tires get to 5-6 years old, time to replace them no matter what they look like.
