Is it generally advisable for RV's that have had lots of storage or minimal use to use an extra, inline fuel filter [usually clear body with visible paper internals] in order to guard against rust and sludge buildup?

Are you asking for the chassis or generator? A modern fuel injected vehicle engine has a high pressure fuel pump. If you add a filter, you will likely have to cut a fuel line, flare the ends, etc to install one. As for a generator, you can add an additional filter because usually the generator is served by a rubber fuel line. However, if fuel sits in the carb and then evaporates, it will leave sludge which will plug up the small passages in the carb.

You could install a valve in the generator line and before parking the vehicle, close the valve and run the generator until it quits to keep the fuel out of the carb.
