I am a retired RN and have enjoyed traveling my whole life. I have Prius camped the past two summers, including a 52 day trip from Florida to Alaska last year. Now I am looking to acquire a Class B van type camper for my future trips. I'm looking for advice and information to assist me in making the best purchase decision.

Thanks for the group invite,
Susan

Welcome from another Floridiot, though currently out in Colorado. I'm usually gone most of the summer with my Roadtrek and motorcycle.

What is your desire, new, used, budget? Prius camping is kinda cool, what with the climate control options.

There are several class B listings in the Mpls area from what a brother of mine has told me, CL and FB.

Happy hunting.

On TDY near Black Hawk, CO.

Welcome

Hi Susan,

Welcome to the world of Class B RV travel. In 2014 I traveled from Vermont through Alaska and back in my Toyota Highlander. It was a great trip but I decided I was too old fortent camping I purchased a 2005 Pleasureway Plateau TS with 63000 miles on it. It has a diesel engine and I get 24 to 26 miles per gallon. It's just the right amount of room for me and my occasional guest. I like it as I can keep the rear sofa down and made up as a bed and I still have this to side for reading etcetera. The winter of 2018 I traveled from Vermont to Florida and then across the southern USA. There were times when I needed heat and other times when I needed air conditioning and both performed beautifully. I Had a rack on the back with my bike, my inflatable kayak under the sofa seat, and other accessories in a case on the back rack. I found that I didn't use most of the things that I took with me so in my subsequent trip in the fall through the Canadian maritimes I did not have the back rack and managed quite well.

Happy to answer any questions you might have. Perhaps a half will cross in our travel

Hi there, fellow RN!

I'm a critical care RN but will be finishing a dual ACNP/FNP master's degree in 2021. One of my goals is to travel the country as a locum tenens. What better way to see the country & get paid to travel :)

We're still in the research stage, but have been looking at the Roadtrek Simplicity. I like the underhood generator ease of use to charge batteries. It's short enough to fit into a parking space. And it doesn't have wild paint/decals that scream "I'm an RV".

Good luck with your search & future travels!

When I was looking for a Class B I did a LOT of research and visiting of Class B's to see what is available and glean as much info as I could from the salespeople. I ended up finding a used 1997 Coach House on Craigslist that I dearly love.

The people on this forum really helped me a lot in learning about it and what I should be doing, taking and thinking about.

Your budget and hobbies make a big difference in the advice we can give.
However, if you can do two months in a Prius I would suspect something not too big or complicated would be the best choice for you.
