Hitch Cargo Carrior

For a future project I was thinking of making a cargo carrior to slide in the reciever hitch, to haul a few things and possibly a moped. I am not really familier with weight added this way. I figure everything including the carrior may total 300 - 400 Lbs. Any thoughts on this much weight added there? Does it affect driving or the rear tires any?

The tongue weight of a Class III hitch is 600 lbs but that is right at the receiver. If you put a box on you are going to have leverage. I'm planning not to have more than 300 lbs including the box. So far I can only identify 200 lbs of stuff and I doubt I will be able to get all that in a Stowaway2 Max box. The critical items are the 2 kayaks and chairs totaling about 100 ibs. Those are the two things that get in the way inside the B.

2 Advanced Elements inflatable kayaks - 73 lbs.
2 chairs - 30 lbs.
Dutch Oven - 22 lbs.
Cast iron tripod - 10 lbs.
Coleman Stove - 15 lbs.
Screen Tent - 30 lbs.
Miscellaneous tools & pie irons - 20 lbs.

Total about 200 lbs.

I'm guessing here, but I don't think you'll have any problem with that amount of weight on it.

Myself, I'd post an easy to see note on the dashboard reminding me that there's another 3' of rack back there for when I park.

I see 600# dirtbikes on these things, so that's where I'm coming from.

I was wondering about leverage myself. Forgot you guys even have a door there.

Just saw a GPS with a builtin Backup Camera, advertised for $299, but I can't find the flyer now . That would solve the 3' problem .

With a 600 lb tongue weight and a dirt bike weighing 600 lbs on a lever I doubt you will see that. I don't know what dirt bikes weigh but I know a small Vespa like motor scooter weighs no more than 350 lbs and I think that might be the limit. Most cargo carriers have a maximum of 300 lbs. capacity even when the vary from 16 cubic feet to 34 cubic feet.
