I have never used the hot water heater and was just wondering how long it takes to heat the water. It is a 6 gal propane fired unit.

No idea, I've never used mine (same size/heat source) either.
However, I read in this article that on most
heaters, just running the pilot (assuming it has one) is usually enough to heat the
water overnight for morning usage.

It also has a lot of other useful RV plumbing info.

When you figure out how long it takes, could you let us know? We're probably going to try
our heater this year (sometime). If I ever get the gunk cleaned out of it. I don't think it's
ever been used or cleaned/flushed. The anode is completely gone.

Thanks.

I think I have used my water heater on every trip but I can't say I know for sure how long it takes to get the water hot. I'd guess 15 to 20 minutes. It really doesn't take long. Even with two of us each taking a shower, one right after the other, we've never run out of hot water.

Not very long! It takes about 10 minutes or so to get some nice warm water - good enough to wash face and hands, and about 15 - maybe 20 minutes (depending on how cold the water in the tank is) to get really hot water for washing dishes or a shower. We normally turn the water heater off at night after we wash dishes and find that in the morning it's still warm enough for washing up.
