Lazy camper level install

Putting in the new front carpet messed up our bubble level setting as it was on the plastic step flange that holds the carpet down. Luckily the lazy way to rereference it that I did the first time is really easy.

First I leveled the van off of the bed, which is the most important to us. The counter will be off a little one way, the frig, another, the floor still another way, as Roadtrek didn't really have a consistent reference.

Here is the area the cheapo bubble level will mount, right behind the driver's seat where I can see it from outside the van or from the seat.



I put a couple of layers of 3 sticky back pads on the back of the level to hold it up above the surface it was going to sit on, but only on one edge. Pick a good location with the release paper still on the pad, where you will be able to be level with the pad on the mounting surface.



Peel off the release liner, and put a volcano of silicone on the middle of the level backside



Just set the level in place with the pads hitting first, and then push it down until it reads level, bedding it in the silicone.





It is nice that this method lets you to very easily mount the level to a place that isn't necessary level with the van leveling.

Total time under 5 minutes, but the van was already level before I started.

Well that's cool. I just have a bubble level lying on the doghouse, and am 100% OK with that. Happy New Year.

I like that idea. Level the van as you prefer, then level the level on a more convenient non-level surface :thumbup:

I used that center bubble level in our former Great West Van Legend Sprinter. As it turned out I could pull the ash tray out, sit it there and the spot was perfect for leveling and could see it from the driver's seat. The 3-way refrigerator needs the bubble to be half way in the center but that is not good enough for sleeping.

Once I found the sweet spot I'd double check with the Clinometer app on my iPhone at the kitchen counter to see if leveling blocks would be needed. The Clinometer app was set to show degrees from level. Less than 1 degree and we were OK. One lego block high fixed about a half degree. With all that we averaged about one day a month where we actually had to level. It seems in the past decade campgrounds have gotten better or we have slowly winnowed down to where we go. A no-brainer no need to check campground is Indiana Dunes SP ever since they put in level concrete pads. Pull throughs are favorited because you could usually find the sweet spot by straddling the hump they often put in for drainage.

The name was changed since 2015. It is now called CamperSet on Apple App Store. It works great and I still use it when camping.

I found one of those that is slightly larger diameter - but is divided in 1*, 2*, and 3*. [* = degree symbol - so much easier than messing with ASCI].
Since the 3-way Dometic must be within 3 degrees - it is a "no brainer" but since I keep it in the fridge; its- Try - Check - Try again - REPEAT as Required! Maybe relocation is on the list.
