Hello from Portland, Oregon. I just bought a 1996 Roadtrek 190 Popular (YAY) and I’m starting to find out things I could use a mechanic for. Wondering if anyone knows of anyplace that just might specialize in vintage RTs, or some place they’ve had good luck with. Thanks.

I do not have any specific recommendation -- but I have had trouble finding mechanics willing to work on my 1999 Roadtrek. Most are not able to get it up on their lifts, so work has to be done on jackstands. Two mechanics I know and trust won't work on it because they just hate crawling around under it!

Anyway, I have taken to doing everything myself. It is a relatively easy vehicle to work on. Otherwise, you might have best success with RV shops even though they are much more expensive. If you do approach regular mechanics, just make sure to let them know that the standard lift points under the vehicle are covered up by tanks.

I do as much of my own work as possible, I got ripped off badly at an RV dealer 25 years ago and watched the guy I sold the RV to get ripped off a year later and have never been back. But not always possible epically on trips.

I go to the nearest NAPA, NAPA auto parts not NAPA garage. I try to get the attention of the older tech and tell them my situation and ask for a recommendation. They know who the good guys are and who does what. This has never failed me.

Don't go in if the store is crowed and try to talk to the tech alone, the worst rip off mechanic in the area may be at the counter and you put the tech in a bad spot. I look for the older guys. If you go to the recommended shop tell them that XXXX at NAPA sent you.

Hi there, should you get involved in mechanical work, and your rig is a 1996 Dodge I have the Dodge Service manual CD at home and I can provide PDF's copies for specific items. Have a nice day
