Family members vacationing in the Detroit area in their 2002 Dodge Leisure Travel have just experienced a transmission problem; it will not shift out of first gear. They are doing their best to troubleshoot the problem on site. If they need to take it to a local transmission repair shop, does anyone have any suggestion as to where to take it?
Thanks

While I don't have any ideas for someone to work on it, if you do have the capability to drop the trans pan, you may want to change the transmission filter and verify fluid level. Sometimes if the filter's plugged, it will shift funny or not at all. Dropping the pan may also give you an indication if it needs something serious (full of metal) or if there's no metal on the bottom.

Thanks for your feedback. I’ll pass it on. They have found a repair shop close to their current location and will have it serviced this week.

Worth checking the ECM on our 2000 B3500 it prevented the tranny from going into OD

Our 2001 LT transmission had similar problem- it would skip 2nd gear and go to third. There were two solutions- both required transmission removal, disassembly , repair or replace and reassemble. If repaired the only new parts are those associated with the area of problem. If replaced all parts are new and warrantied. Also, it allows for an upgrade of Low ratio lever shift kit, as these vehicles do not come with an upgraded transmission to handle the extra load of the Class B weight. WE chose the replacement. Yes, it costs more, but better for reliability and resale in the future. You pay the labour to remove, disassemble etc either way.
Hope this helps your friends or others in the future.
