Thought I would post this after seeing discussions on propane fire pits. The propane ones are great and I wish I could carry one (with a tank), but I just don't have room. Saw this little wood pit and thought I would give it a try. It works OK and doesn't take up much room. I usually gather up enough small sticks around the campsite to have a nice little fire. You have to feed it wood frequently and the flame isn't big but it does the job. We even roast marshmallows on it. When we are done for the evening it is easy to douse any remaining embers.

Just curious - maybe could also do a small steak? I am guessing it would get hot enough - just won't be a "Tomahawk" for sure!

Cheers - Jim
Maybe a chunk of cube steak;) Diameter is only 5.5 inches. Really just big enough to roast marshmallows.

Just bought a nice little ceramic jar thingy that takes a can of gel fuel. Can even toast marshmallows and hot dogs. Lots of containers out there or come up with your own thing. My propane firepit was nice but for traveling in my tiny camper van there was no room.

The original post was about wood burning stoves, but if you want fuel and not propane or alcohol gel, you might want to look at single burner white gas fueled backpacking stove. They give a nice flame like the little fire pits, IIRC.

I have the two smallest Solo smokeless stoves and have used them for years for a Minimalist Fire Pit. I carry pre-cutup scraps of left over scraps from under the table saw. I cut the pieces in small chunks and the stove and enough scraps for a couple nights will fit in one of those 5 gallon square pails, you can supplement with scrap sticks from the site. Makes for easy packing. If you decide to us pellets? try them at home first. The smaller solo claims to be able to use pellets but it smokes real bad way to long before the smokeless kicks in. You will get a few people kidding you about the small fire but they seem to enjoy the no smoke and dry firewood that doesn't take a lot of space to haul.

I do need to add: don't expect the mini stove to burn as well as the larger Solo stoves. It works well enough to suite our needs though.

I wasn't trying to talk anyone into Solo, there a lot more expensive but they didn't have cheaper competition when I bough them. The two smallest ones are not that much bigger than the one you bought.

I didn't know Solo made small ones. Perhaps they would work better than my cheap one.
