Mounting a Spare Tire on a Travato Ladder

Has anyone secured a spare tire to the ladder on a Travato? Seems like it would work efficiently. Just bought a new (to us) 2022KL. We had one a few years back, sold it, but gets in your blood, so jumped back in. Plus, being in the senior generation, that rear bathroom is nice to have riding along with us! Any other Travato owners like to get together down here in Florida?

Seems risky with the weight of the wheel and tire. We bought an Aluminess carrier designed to carry the weight by connecting to the door hinges and much heavier metal tubing. Ladders are generally meant to carry a persons weight when the RV is stationary. The bouncing down the road greatly increases the dynamic weight of the load.

I found instructions on the web for converting the bike rack to a spare tire carrier for our 2021 Coachmen Nova, built on a Promaster 3500 chassis. I'm by no means a mechanic but I was able to make it work and it's held up fine for 3 years. You lose the bike rack, but I got a separate bike carrier that plugs into the hitch receptacle. Don't know about the Travato but it might be close enough to work.

As I recall there were a few changes in fastener sizes needed, but it wasn't that hard to figure out.

Thanks so much Chuck! I knew someone in our RVing Nation would have the answer to just about any problem we run into. The only real trouble we've had on the road when we were towing was an occasional blown tire in the middle of nowhere. Peace of mind adds a lot to any trip and having roadside assistance, a spare tire and a phone fill that bill nicely!
