I have had a 1970 VW tin top camper bus for 16 years. It is pretty tight for two of us, and my wife doesn't drive a stick. So when this well cared for 1987 Dodge Xplorer turned up, I couldn't resist. I can't quite get myself to sell the VW Bus, so I will have two camper vans to play with.
Greetings all, and thanks for this forum. I hope to pay back some of the benefit that I have already received for you all.
The Dodge is on a B250 chassis with the 5.2 liter 318, 2 barrel carb. It has 4 captain's chairs and a dinette in the rear that makes into a full size bed. No shower. It has 68k miles and has been garaged its entire life when not on the road. All the documentation came with it, so I am working through a bit of a learning curve. So far, so good. All systems are working that I have tackled. I have yet to fire up the 3-way fridge. My driveway is far from level, and I understand level is appreciated by these Dometic units. I filled up the propane tank and will give the fridge a try on propane soon. I haven't had a 30 amp shore service available, and I think that the fridge and roof top AC unit require that if going the AC route. On its maiden voyage this week over to the Olympic Peninsula I logged about 400 miles and got 13.5 mpg. The motor and 3-speed with overdrive tranny both worked as designed. I am located in Seattle, Wa.
