New owner - question re getting around

Just bought a 1996 Model 221RD a few weeks ago. Have taken it out once for a 3-day trip. Had problems with the commode to the extent that we ended up using the wash rooms at the campground. Carpet in front of the bathroom door kept getting soaked, commode leaking from base. We ended up cutting about 1/2" off the wood panel in front of the door but have not used the bathroom since then because we haven't been out. But my question is this - since you can't tow a vehicle behind the RV, how do other owners of this unit get around once you're parked in the RV park? I mean if you need to go to the grocery store, want to go sightseeing, shopping, etc., what do you do? I know we can unhook everything and hook it back up again, but do you have other methods?

We have a 97 RD with the same problem. We took a 7000 mile trip from Florida to British Columbia to Michigan & back to Florida this summer. The problem developed on the trip & we have tried everything to stop it including resealing the roof; resealing all the openings in the roof; checking the outside shower; emptying all the holding tanks, etc with no luck. We just stopped using the bathroom at all but now when it rains we get water coming from the bottom seal of the commode and down into the lower area where the drain plus is. We have given up on it and just use the RV park restrooms. If you come up with a solution, please let me know.

This is in regard to the leaks at bathroom location. There are several possibilities here. 1)The seal from the comoode to the floor (replace). 2)Vent pipe for holding tank on roof (re-seal) 3)Bathroom sink faucet is on or leaking - overflowing drain trough (check that stopper in drain trough is open behind vanity table). 4)Toilet too full with water? 5) Crack in holding tank? Otherwise, the obvious other things could be a cracked ceiling fan vent. One way or another something should eventually stop these leaks. Do either of you leave the water pump switch on? Also, could one of the fittings that feed the toilet or bathroom sink be loose? This is a process of elimination but resolvable. Best of luck and post your results when you find it!

We bought a 2004 HD model last year. We love it, easy to park and get around. We do not connect the sewer hoses or water hose (we keep water in the tank). We drink bottled water anyway. We plug in electricity only and connect the sewer hoses when we need to empty the tanks. We can leave our site in 5 minutes or less if need be. We also have a seperate canopy that we set up in less than 5 minutes so we can leave it there if we need to go out with the Rialta. We carry 2 bikes with a bike rack on the back. Its great for short trips to the store.


We also try to find campgrounds that are convienent to our needs. Exemple ( we love the beach so we stay at campgrounds that are short walk to the beach). This February we will be at Turtle Beach RV Park in Sarasota. This is a campground right next to the beach, a little expensive but we saved on gas getting there.....right!
