New to Class B

1996 Travel Inn

I was just gifted a 1996 Travel Inn. I've taken out on a couple overnight state park trips with my wife and dogs so far. Its in good shape and only sitting on 75,000 miles so far.

I will tell you one thing above all others: get wheel spacers. The factory rear axle is 4" narrower than the front. This is bad for at least three reasons:

1: The van is top heavy. Any shortening of width at the axles leads to instability, especially in the wind.

2: The front and rear tires are not traveling over the same patch of road. At 70mph this makes it feel like the van os dancing under you.

3: If you find yourself in snow or mud, the rear (drive) wheels are not able to use the trail broken by the front tires. This is just plain dangerous in snow, and a PITA in mud.

4: (kinda) It's not really a good reason technically, but man it looks goofy to have such a narrow rear axle.

What you want are 2" spacers for each tire. I used these, and so far, so good.
