Do you use any type of surge protector when you hook up to the campground power? Are they necessary, Camping World has one for about $250 and I don't want to spend the money if you more experienced owners think it is not necessary.

I don't know much about surge protection. It's probably better to have it though. I've read lots of posts about poor quality campground power.

I carry one of these:

Reg $99 and now $66 on sale (Club SALE only $59.99)

I often forget to use it but the Tripp Lite RV612UL Inverter/Charger in my van has 450 joules AC surge suppression built-in so I always have some protection.

Just got the same one from CampWorld today. Better to be safe than sorry I think. Definitely worth the $66.

I got the $200+ from CW, after talking to a gent who had an A and didn't have a guard - something went wrong in the campground and apparently fried a lot of his equipment. Said cg owner was reluctant to accept responsiblility, but another camper proved it was their equipment and not the campers. Since it cost a bundle, I hook it up in the storage bin and run an extension to the pole. Had problems once and the guard picked it up and wouldn't let us get power; got another site and everything was fine. Got to give them a nod for their protection. Ron
