Underpowered

Took my new 1995 Rialta on its first trip in mountains recently. I felt Rialta were somewhat underpowered when I first drove one and that was on level terrain. In the mountains I was able to achieve only 35 mph on an Interstate locally and am concerned about how the unit will perform on an extended trip in mountains. Is this a characteristic of the Rialta or should I be looking at having and engine overhaul or replacement with a bigger ( 6 cylinder/ more HP )) motor ?

Even travelling on level roads it shows 3000+ RPM @ 55 mph. Is this normal ?

I had a 2.5L gas engine in my westfalia , and it felt so underpowered that I switched to a modified TDI engine .....

Some said that I was too speedy lolllllllllll....maybe but that`s the way I am !

personnaly a 2.5L @ 115 hp is way underpowered ....

it is feasible to transfer a VR6 in it ....... but it`s gonna cost !

It`s your decision .....

If you think the Rialta is worth the expense ,

or keep it this way and relax !!!! ;-)

I just don't want to be in the middle of a cross country trip or silimar and have the engine overheat and /or die.

Does 3000+ rpm at 55mph seem excessive ?

Your RPM's sound about right for the 5 cylinder engine. The 4 cylinder LeSharo I owned would run about 4K at 60 mph and gave 15 mpg. My 04 HD Rialta, with 24v engine runs at 3K RPM at 62 mph. Driving a motor home with any engine will require torque and does not drive like a car will. Unless you are trying to make time to arrive at a certain destination, take your time and see the country.

my 2.5L in my westfalia ran at 3300 rpm @ 60mph ..........
