Greetings, if boondocking in hot weather where a/c is desired, can i run a Honda 2200w (15a) unit and slow the discharge if my battery? I can eun the a/c for about 5 hours in battery alone. Thanks in advance for your council. Cheers

Short answer is yes, but the long answer depends on how you're thinking of hooking up the generator. Some generators have a 12v output option while also delivering 120/240v.

You're going to need some sort of charge controller to make sure the battery isn't overcharged. Whether that's a stand alone 120v charger, solar charge controller, or inverter charge controller.

If you just plug into the generator, the system will assume the generator is shore power and that becomes the primary source for powering the generator, which may or may not start the compressor. If you're using some external charger and maybe even a solar charge controller, then your battery should be the primary source. This would be similar to when you run the vehicle and the alternator charges the coach battery and should add that little extra to your system.

Thanks for the reply. Makes sense. If the external power is connected to the van, it will assume the generator the primary power, and disable the inverter.at that point the little generator would be the only source of a/c.... right? 🤷

Depending on what inverter you have and how it is setup, it may take care of it for you.

High end inverters can now frequency match and make up whatever power shore or generator isn't capable of doing by adding some battery inverted 110v power to the load.

Probably best to check with Coachmen to find out how yours is set up.

I have 21 Coachmen li3 4x4 the 3500XD, this is the longest one. I changed all solar panels to 125W and added one additional, so, I have 4 panels now. A side from that I installed additional 300Ah lithium battery and separate 100Amp charger for it, when I am plugged in, I use this charger to top it off both of the batteries, the original 600Ah and the 300Ah. Also there is factory installed plog to connect additional solar panels. With this setup I can run AC and everything else for couple days with problems. For emergency if there is no sun, there is alternator/generator under the hood.
Didn't need to use it, but is there.
People at the campgrounds don't like this generators running all day.
Just little bit of information for other options then running generator.

I run my 10K LG dual inverter AC with a Honda 2200 in ECO mode. The Honda is in a sound deadening box. Not soundless but noticeably quieter.
