Default Stupid Questions from a Newbie

Ok, I admit I haven't run all the systems on my new (to me) van. 1989 Chevy Fiesta van. I'm hoping to get some pointers on efficient and effective operation of the systems for a "dry run". The van was recently propane certified.

So I suspect I need to light a pilot light for the furnace & hot water heater. That would be done on the outside of the van?

Please feel free to jump in here and tell me what to do and anything else I should know. I admit naivety.

Actually they are good questions.

I don't know the answer

Water heaters can be DSI (Direct Spark Ignition) which light automatically or they can have a pilot light.

I've only ever had furnaces that light automatically and are controlled by the thermostat.

Can you find any model numbers? Then we could do some research.

Ok, I goofed. I think I've been so preoccupied with the importation of the van, vehicle safety inspection and sorting out the mess of the title/ownership changed that I haven't had a chance to properly poke around.
Looks like the hot water heater instructions are right there and it looks like a push-button pilot light (DSI?). Am I right on that?

The furnace is still a mystery.

Thanks for all the guidance.

Photo #2 (labeled furnace) is actually the rear of the fridge.

Your water heater looks to have more features than you find in current models. It looks like you can adjust the temperature from warm to hot. I'll try to find some info.

Looks like you have to light the pilot on that Unitrol control on your water heater.

I copied the instructions from your photo here to make it easier to read.

Lighting and Shutdown Instructions

1. Turn gas cock to "off" position. Wait 5 minutes.
2. Turn to pilot position, preset button and light pilot. Hold down reset button until pilot remains "lit". Turn gas cock to "on" position.
3. Set temperature indicator to desired position.
4. If pilot goes out, repeat steps 1, 2 and 3.
5. To shut down, turn gas cock to "off" position.
