What is the model name for my Class B?
I bought a 1985 Dodge Class B van. The previous owner stated that there was no other name (Like Winnibago, Trailmaster etc.). Did Dodge make a factory RV in 1985?

Re: What is the model name for my Class B?
In 1985 the Dodge RAM platform was used by Wild Rose, Getaway Van, Campwagon, Roadtrek, Leisure Travel and, I think Great West and Pleasureway. All of these should be proudly badged. If the unit is not badged, it may have been converted privately. Pictures would help.

Re: What is the model name for my Class B?
A "head shot" would have been nice to see the skylight window configuration.
Looks interesting, but I have no idea.
The side doors look "armoured car".

Re: What is the model name for my Class B?
Pretty sure that is a conversion done by some smaller company, there were tons of them doing it just like today. Can't ever really go by a lack of badging though, people often de-badge rigs to make them less obvious. My RT was de-badged before I bought it and the advertisement on CL said nothing other than Dodge Motorhome. The car lot selling it didn't know what it was either, but it was obvious if you know Roadtreks. I found all the owners manuals in a drawer too.
It looks like a pretty cool rig no matter what it ends up being

Thanks for your reply. I think it needs a lot of interior work. Just had roof sealed.I'm going to need to replace some interior panels.dash a/c not working but it is sound om the road.

Re: What is the model name for my Class B?
Hello everyone,
I'm new here - just joined a couple of days ago. I don't have a B yet but I've done a *lot* of looking, and I think this is either an Xplorer or a Roadtrek. I'm leaning toward Roadtrek, because -
- It has at least one skylight. I have seen a mid-'80s Xplorer "in person", back when I first started my search, and I don't remember any skylights. And pictures of the Xplorers I've seen since then don't show any. RTs, on the other hand, have had three since they were redesigned in 1980. (LER conversions also had skylights, but they weren't made until 1987.)
- There is no A/C unit on the roof. RTs were designed with the A/Cs basically *inside* the roof (at the rear of the vehicle, I believe).
There aren't any inside pictures here, but if I were choosing between Roadtrek and Xplorer the deciding factor would be the bathroom. Xplorers of this era had a "wet bath," with a shower. RTs, to my knowledge, have never had those; the early models mostly had just a toilet, in a little closet across from the galley (the toilet faced the aisle). The only ones with a shower were the Top Liners, and the shower unit was a separate section next to the toilet that was also used as a wardrobe (and stuck partway out into the aisle).
Here's a link to Roadtrek's 1985 brochure:
http://www.roadtrek.com/_images/broc...model_year.pdf
Just one other thing I can think of: Does the van have a metal plate with the manufacturing info on it? I'm not sure where it would be, and it's possible it's been removed. But if it's still there that might help you identify it.
I hope that helps.
Meg

Re: What is the model name for my Class B?
That brochure was very helpful. It turns out my Class B is a 1985 Dodge Roadtrek Versatile. The interior is identical! I really appreciate the help.

Re: What is the model name for my Class B?
Glad you figured it out.
I'm still wondering what sort of "mod" was done to the passenger side split doors
to give them the extra height. Perhaps a wheelchair lift was added at some time,
as I think I've seen some local care-a-vans with similar door configuration.
They don't really look like the factory ones on the model in the brochure.

Re: What is the model name for my Class B?
The driver's seat is a fixed seat that does not rotate. The front passenger seat rotates. I think you are probably correct that this RT was modded for a wheelchair driver. The two rear chairs have also been removed so it would make sense that the original owner had rigged it for a wheelchair.
Since the two chairs have been removed I'm wondering how to furnish that space. I could just leave it as an open area. Any suggestions?

Re: What is the model name for my Class B?
This afternoon I saw an identical setup for the side doors of a van where they extended into the raised roof. The doors where configured for a wheel chair access ramp, not a wheel chair lift. PS: it was not a class B camper, just a van with a raised roof, no fancy windows.

Re: What is the model name for my Class B?
Glad you were able to figure this out! I hadn't seen an RT without the vents for the AC and with the two larger side windows like that, I like it! The wheelchair lift makes sense to explain the taller side doors. I wish I had the same problem with too much space to fill! I have been eeking out every available inch in mine for quite a while now!
