Default Generator removal worth it?

Our Rialta has an Onan generator that we never use. Is it worth the trouble to save the weight by removing it? It seems like a pretty small generator; would it even save that much weight? Thanks!

Some have removed and replaced with batteries for boondocking more. If you have not used the generator or exercised it monthly, then it will probably not run as the carburetor is full of gunk. You cannot run the roof A/C unless plugged into outside 115V.

Default Generator removal

We're really not boondockers, and have shore power just about everywhere we go. The generator ran before the winter, but now it won't start. I've researched it some more and I think the removal probably isn't worth the trouble. Thanks!

Rialta's don't have all that much weight capacity so getting rid of somewhere in the 140# of generator is not a bad idea, IMO, if you aren't using it. The Rialta generators are also pretty rare so selling it (after cleaning the carb to get it running) might be fairly lucrative for you. I think it is in an outside accessible cabinet also, so might be useful for dirty stuff storage like leveling blocks or a grille.

We removed ours nearly a decade ago and don't miss it a bit. Way to much maintenance required.

Have a 99QD. Removed ours 3 years ago and use that space for leveling block storage. Not a big deal to remove.

I have been thinking about having my Onan removed on my E250 based B, but I would like a box of similar size put in, that I can open with a door in the floor for storage and more batteries. I have not found anyone in my area that does that kind of work so far. I carefully made sure I had corn free gas in the van and generator thinking I could get around the monthly starting over the Winter but it would not start in the Spring. That was about 5 years ago and I haven't missed it either. Used it once to run the AC and it was so noise We couldn't sleep, was better to be a little warm and run the Maxx Fan on a low speed.

Default Got some help

I got some unexpected help deciding what to do with the generator -- even after cleaning out the carb and fuel lines, it still won't even think about starting. I'm not going to mess with it any further, so I'll be removing it. A little extra storage space would be nice, too!
