The air vent on the water fill cap is really small, maybe you can plug that hole to eliminate that annoying sound. The tank has an overflow outlet, thats more than enough for a vent? just a thought.

For showering in cold weather, a water heater is well worth it. You should have gotten a hybrid one that runs on propane or electric. Use electric when hooked up, saves a lot of propane.
