Default Rialta Transmission

Purchased 1997 Winnebago Rialta 2 months ago. Took it for regular maintenance and mechanic sprayed silicone in the gear shift. After that when I tried to put in reverse gear engine shuttered and shut down. Able to get started and get into drive after few tries and the lost power again. Towed to VW dealer says thinks needs transmission but did not open the transmission. Any suggestions or thoughts

What was opinion of mechanic that did the service? Silicone in shifter would have no relation to the problem you’re describing. Any Check Engine light?
