Default Any plans for April 8, 2024? (total eclipse!)

OK, this is a long way off, but we are planning on a short trip to see our first total eclipse. It will be another 20 years before one hits such a large portion of the US. I looks others are thinking the same--sites are booking up.

Anyone else thinking ahead?

I always think of Carly Simon's "You're so Vain" , so that would put Cape Breton Island at the top of the list...

We did make a reservation about 2 months ago for a place right in the pathway. We paid about 2-3 times the typical price for that location for a reservation on April 7-9th. The vendors all figured out a long time ago that this was a money making opportunity. You can't blame them for that. The prices will only go up between now and then.

Wow, no kidding! Just looked at one site where the normal rate is $54 but, for April 7-9, it's $250!!!

OK, i'm booked at a hotel. If anyone looks into rates, you won't believe hotel and RV sites. Plus all the lesser hotels are sold out!

Ended up using Marriott points. While the hotel has radically inflated dollar rates, they did not, for some reason, equate to increased Marriott points.

Still going to drive the van, however. It's our favorite vehicle for long drives even if we don't sleep in it.

Our house is in the totality path so we'll just sit in the back yard. During the last one we visited my mother in Nashville since it was in the totality path. It was very cool and a bit spooky. We made the mistake of trying to drive home right afterwards and the freeways were packed. It'll be nice to see it from home.

We have family in rural Indiana that are in the path. Our plan is to boondock on their property. I also have a neighbor who plans to take his trailer, so I think a lot of people are thinking about it. Should be fun.

Default I will wing it, wish me luck.

I plan to boondock somewhere in Arkansas (close to HotSprings or Eureka Springs) out of the path, travel to the path that morning and return to wherever in the afternoon. Most likely will see it from roadside. I did it for the 2017one, night travel in a car from Orlando to Santee SC, return that afternoon to work next day. It was amazing , but crazy, I know better now and I am better prepared. Plan to take a few days around the date, to be in position.

Advanced RV in Cleveland has rescheduled their Advanced Fest normally scheduled in May to the eclipse date. There will be several Class Bs in attendance I imagine. More than the usual.

We're going to Garner State Park near Uvalde, Texas. IF we can get reservations. They only allow bookings 5 months in advance, so I'll be trying on line at the earliest opportunity and hope to sneak in. If not, my brother-in-law has property in nearby Bandera, Texas which is still at or near fulll eclipse.
