Default Basic Winegard question

How do I turn that thing off?

It doesn't need to be running day and night. I like to keep my main switch on 24/7, but want to turn off the Winegard. There is no switch, and it doesn't look like it's on its own fuse.

Connect 2.0 WF2-35B

Just called Thor and they told me they hardwire the Winegard Connect 2.0 WF2-35B to the main switch, so there is simply no way to disconnect it.

Weird.

Is there a wall plate for this unit? If so, remove it, find the 12v+ wire (the fused one) and put a switch on that wire and mount the switch close to the wall plate.

Does not your antenna have a face plate where the cable connects to your TV? If so, then there is a small button to turn on the amplifier to boost the signal. Just turn it off.

Sorry guys, the Winegard Connect 2.0 WF2-35B is neither a dish nor an antenna booster. It is a WiFi booster and wireless network (4G/LTE) hotspot.

So, there are no plates or anything where a wire would surface to add a switch.

It's not a huge deal, I just don't like that sort of "always on" connection which is very exposed to drive-by hacker-wannabees. Plus, since I don't use it, it just wastes energy (not sure how much and whether it is negligible).

Could you take a photo of unit for better answers? Try to remove it to get to the back wiring so you could add an on/off switch.

It sits on the roof, and looks like this: https://winegard.com/connect-2-4g2/

I guess I'd have to trace the wire and see where it crosses a panel or something where I could add a switch.

Probably easier to trace forward from the fuse in the 12V panel. Just pull fuses until you find the one that feeds it. There is a decent chance that it has a dedicated fuse, which would make the project easy.

Hmmm well I called Thor and they said it is not fused, but hard-wired to the main switch. Could be wrong info, or I misunderstood, but looking over the fuses none says anything related to Winegard or Wifi/Booster/whatnot.

That would be horrible, unless the feed wire is big enough to handle the rated current of the fuse or breaker that feeds the main switch, which seems unlikely.

If you can remove the main fuse switch, you should find the wire from your Wi-Fi booster. Then you could add a switch between the main fuse and Wi-Fi booster. I suspect that all the 12v wires are on a main buss bar like this. https://www.amazon.com/Mofeez-Screw-...823643103&th=1

Thank you, yes that sounds likely. I would need to explore the area near the back of the main switch, which is difficult because for that I have to pull the refrigerator (which may be easy, just that I have never done it.)

I ended up resolving this by brute force - I opened up the "dome", the cover that covers the Winegard, and disconnected the power wire so now it doesn't needlessly use up juice.

Just takes a ladder, screwdriver with correct bit, and 5 minutes to restore it to former glory.
