Wow, these pictures of the failed receiver are shocking.
And why is Curt so widely used? Underbidding (and under-building) a sub par product?
I’m going to take a good look at the Curt receiver that came on my ‘12 RT 190.
I carry a Curt (gulp) cargo basket loaded with <150#s.

I do not know why my PW has a Curt. Other people on FB PW forum said they have Ram OEM hitches. Curt does make some really good products! Their class 3 has same rating as Ram's Class 4 hitch? Do not know why? Curt makes a class 4 which costs about the same as Ram's hitch. I believe Curt's class 4 hitch is probably better than Ram's class 4. Actually rated higher tow and tongue weights!

I just know the Curt class 3 used by Winnebago Travato has exhibited problems like sag and breakage. Do not know if Winnebago has discontinued using the Curt. Sometimes the van's underneath build requires a certain hitch. Know the Curt class 3 is unobtrusive to most van builds. Their class 4 may not work with lots of builds because of the real estate issues.

Curt makes some great hitches. They have a class 4 selling for about $500.00. It has tongue weight rating of 750lbs. Tow weight capacity is 7,500lbs. I looked at this as a replacement because the specs looked better. I declined because the install might be hampered by the PW build. I know the Travatos use the Curt hitches because Winnebago uses up most of the real estate and larger, more robust hitches cannot be used.
